The community of the Swamp, located in the coastal area south of Barahona, in the eastern slope of the Sierra de Bahoruco, suffers from the typical problems of rural communities in this region: unemployment, poverty (84% of its population is below the poverty line, reflected especially in the case of women), crime, rural exodus and persistent environmental degradation are the result of the low profitability of traditional agriculture and the lack of sustainable income-generating alternatives.

The identification of needs and the general guidelines of the project design have been developed and / or validated in meetings with the (I) Community (o) s which guarantees identification with the project. The project will be implemented in partnership with community organizations, existing, established and recognized. Small Business will be managed entirely by the beneficiaries of the project, the role of management of the project will train, advise and assist, so that / as beneficiaries become protagonists of their own development, contributing to the project empoderamineto and the formation of local social capital
