Project-swamp TRANSAGRO
Is the creation of a small joint venture of agro processing of fruit, run by women in the community, this project seeks to provide a sustainable solution to the problems of income generation and environmental conservation through the enhancement of products that are environmentally sustainable farming - basically fruit, preferably organic, and to promote inclusion and participation of women in the economy. The Swamp community, located in the coastal area south of Barahona, and on the eastern slope of the Sierra de Bahoruco, suffers from typical problems of rural communities in the region: unemployment, poverty (84% of its population is below the poverty line, reflected especially in the case of women), crime, rural exodus and persistent environmental degradation are the consequences of the low profitability of traditional agriculture and the lack of sustainable income-generating alternatives.
The project responds to needs expressed by the (a) Community s (a) s. The identification of needs and the general outlines of the project design have been developed and / or validated in meetings with the (old) EU (o) s which guarantees identification with the project. The project will be implemented in partnership with community organizations, existing, established and recognized. Small Business will be managed entirely by the beneficiaries of the project, the role of management of the project will train, advise and assist, so that / as beneficiaries become protagonists of their own development, contributing to the project empoderamineto and training of local social capital

A late 2003, Vicky and two young graduates of a course of community leaders, sat with a group of community leaders / as, talking about how to take p'alante Swamp community. That day was concluded with the need both for ideas that would generate income instead, looking after the environment, develop entrepreneurship, management and organization, and the need to integrate women in the community in paid work to improve health and education. Today, after almost six years later, having made the project TRANSGAGRO and obtained the support of various organizations (PPS.pnud, FIA, Ibbi etc.) and implemented two years, the Cooperative of Women of Cienaga, COOpDECI, was present on 6 and 7 June in the FestiCafe 2009, scenario for the market the first hint of bitter orange marmalade and "In My Siembra", produced with the fruits of the shadow of the coffee of our hills. After a long process development and adjustment of the formulas of our products, IIBI starts to transfer the technical knowledge of how to make jams Soursop, Mango, Banana and passion fruit. Today we received the visit of IIBI technical team, led by Dr. Lucia Berigüete, responsible for Food Innovation Institute for Biotechnology and Industry (IIBI), to discuss the process spent in preparing jams and start planning Technology Transfer.

The "Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development in the Information Society" GenARDIS pre-selected our proposal for the project among the 230 it received. From the 20 selected, 15 will be financed with about 7,000 euro each. Ours plans to develop multimedia materials for ICT training for women who run rural cooperatives. The Cooperative Group for Development of La Cienaga was formally established in the Agricultural Cooperative of Multiple Services and Development of La Cienaga (COODECI) in the Constituent Assembly held the first of September in the local source, the municipality of La Cienega. Coodeci be based organization to manage the activities of the two income-generating projects (processing of fruits and community-based ecotourism) but can perform many other activities
(Such as savings and loans). This is a result of hard work of the Foundation team Taiguey carried out with financial support from the Social Fund of the Embassy of France, the Environment Fund of the United Nations (PPS) and the newly confirmed support of the Foundation Intermaricana ( FIA). A big applause to the group manager for its work and by throwing Cienaga mate '!

Subject to final approval of the United States Congress, the American Foundation (FIA) Foundation approved a grant to the project Taiguey TRANSAGRO , in particular to provide training and technical assistance for the women of the community of La Cienaga, Barahona , which has been organized to establish the Cooperative for the Development of La Cienaga (COODECI). Institute for Innovation in Biotechnology and Industry (IIBI) and Taiguey Foundation signed a collaboration agreement in which the Ibbi provide technical assistance for the development of Jams, Preserves and Fresh Pasta from fruit produced in the impact zone of Swamp Transagro project, which seeks to create opportunities for income generation and assessment of environmentally sustainable agricultural crops by creating women's cooperative agro-processing craft.

During these months working with my colleagues to Transagro and ecotourism projects and see the results ... The June and December 17, 2007 we had a workshop facilitated by Soil Conservation Mr. Elpidio Moreta. The first day of the workshop (the theoretical conserve soil) was explained to participants what are the treatments that harm the soil and how to use other ways to treat it possible to follow planting without the application of chemicals and also to protect harvest.
