Introducing the draft ACT! Ivate at the Conference of the Jamaica Network of Telecentres

This day March 13, Yacine Khelladi Executive Coordinator Taigüey Foundation, presented the project of the Alliance of Caribbean Telecentres ACT! To ivate / participants of the first Conference of the Telecentre Network of Jamaica (Jamaica Conference Community Multimedia Centre ) . The project's goal Act! Ivate is to build and sustain the inner workings of the Alliance of Caribbean Community Telecentres (ACT!) viewed as a regional framework to share and promote collaboration among Caribbean telecentres. The project is scheduled to begin mid 2008 with financial support from telecentre.org The project concept is based on the results of Caribbean Telecentres Workshop, which took place in the Dominican Republic in July 2006 with over 60 key stakeholders in the region (see http://taiguey.org/CTW /. A working group after the workshop defined the alliance of Caribbean Telecentres (ACT!) and this project propner put in place the mechanism and the organization for its continuity.
The Alliance of Caribbean Telecentres (ACT!) has eaten aim to promote exchange and collaboration among Caribbean telecentres to consolidate the social impact of telecentres initiatives in communities and ensure their sustainability.
This includes:
- facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange of information
- facilitate the development of collaborative projects
- provide technical support among peers - to support the access to technical support to the telecentres in the region
- promote democracy, digital inclusion and the right to information reporting ea
- promote community empowerment and capacity of social transformation in rural and urban poor communities
