Visit of the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) in preparation for its next project COMP-supported agriculture.

Subject to final approval of the Congress of the United States, the Inter-American Foundation (FIA) approved a grant to Taiguey Foundation for the project TRANSAGRO, in particular to provide training and technical assistance of the group of women from the community of La Cienaga, in Barahona , Which has been organized in order to establish the Cooperative for the Development of La Cienaga (COODECI). This June 17 were visiting Jenny Petrow, in charge of the FIA for the region, his assistant Theresa Logan and Sandra Lafontaine, verifying data.
With an estimated 40 members, COODECI proposes to employ about 20 women in government and in the daily operations of this cooperative, which will be devoted to buying fruit from local farmers for further processing into value-added products such as jam and jelly, and sales in niche markets in the country
