Emotional ceremony closes successful and innovative ICT course for teachers / as La Cienaga

Teacher training in the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) supported by the constructivist learning process was present in the course developed by the Foundation Taigüey in Guanaba.net Community Technology Centre in the Commonwealth of The Ciénaga, Barahona Province. This initiative had the support and collaboration of the Directorate General Informatics Education of the Ministry of Education (SEE) and the regional education authorities and District of the Province, was developed through a process of action research accompanied by Paulino Ogando, specialist in distance education and information technology for development.
The process of action research was conducted between May and November 2008, through which the infomediaries of Guanaba.net Team, composed of young Arianny Terrero, Alejandro Ramirez Felix Montilla and Barlin, were accompanied by Mr. Ogando through a process of curriculum construction and adaptation from a needs assessment that identified the training needs of teachers. The curriculum generated by this construction process was structured in four integrated modules that allowed participating teachers association knowledge on ICT integration in the areas of work of their respective schools. Teachers beneficiaries come from secondary schools Lycée La Cienega FUDECO Elementary School Elementary School Manuel Moreta and Bahoruco Elementary School, all belonging to the jurisdiction of the Municipality of La Cienega.

Among the major indicators of success of the course include the high retention rate that achieved the infomediaries. From an initial enrollment of 21 teachers completed a total of 20, equivalent to 95% of stay and only a 5% attrition. This indicator against international indicators on teacher training in ICT is an accomplishment rarely achieved in similar initiatives or programs, which are mostly below 80%. The success is attributed primarily to the relevance of the curriculum developed, which focuses on the use of ICT tools provided from the viewpoint of the teacher and their application in the classroom, second transverse lines incorporating oriented role own teacher in today's society and its commitment to the development of a new vision in their students, and third, constructivist approach to curriculum and methodology that made room for teachers to feel the builders of their own learning.


In an emotional ceremony for the closing ceremony of the day of the course, led by the coordinators of the Foundation Taigüey, Yacine Khelladi and Vicky Apolinario, and LEAs teachers expressed satisfaction with the learning achieved and their willingness to continue training in using the tools provided by ICT for their own growth professional and best performance in the classroom by integrating these tools. By Meanwhile the directors of the Foundation and the Community Telecentre Taigüey Guanaba.net expressed their willingness to continue contributing to the development of the Municipality of La Cienega.
Program Curriculum Development and Training in ICT continues to develop and provides address youth populations, community organizations and children / as in the early grades of elementary school.
