Workshop with 80 operators / Technology Center as Southwest launches social network community CACT-Dominican

On Thursday 16 April, held its first meeting / workshop on collective Access Centers to ICTs Enriquillo Region in South facilities Youth Foundation, in Barahona coordinated by the Technical Unit of the C omission National Information Society (CNSIC) of the Dominican Republic and the Foundation Taigüey. The meeting is part of the process of formation of the National Network and the Commonwealth of Dominican Cacts, which seeks to enhance the sustainability and social impact of technology centers through joint capacity building, exchange of experiences, tools and best practices between managers and operators of the technology centers. The same was attended by 80 operators / managers as and / as the Community Technological Centers (Cacts) INDOTEL promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth in the provinces of Pedernales, Bahoruco, Barahona and Independencia. Teacher training in the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT), supported by constructivist learning process was present in the course developed by the Foundation in Taigüey Guanaba.net Community Technology Center in the Commonwealth of The Cienaga, Barahona Province. On Monday, November 17 was held the workshop "Sustainability Initiatives Access to ICTs in the Dominican Republic" in order to "analyze and share among the various governmental and nongovernmental organizations in the Dominican Republic to promote access initiatives to ICTs lessons learned, best practices, working methods, resources used, the impact of these initiatives in communities and the challenges to ensure sustainability of these initiatives and increase their social impact in developing human communities and their inhabitants. Luis Carlos enables us (volunteer) for basic maintenance of the only Township Public photocopier

Luis Carlos (aka Julio) is a professional, friendly and very cooperative living touring the country giving repairing and maintaining office equipment. In solidarity with our community project Guanaba.Net decided to come to volunteer and train our youth to the basic maintenance of photocopier. This machine is of strategic importance, which is the only serving the entire municipality of Cienaga, and avoid the trip to Barahona to many people. Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development in the Information Society pre-select our proposal of 231

The "Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development in the Information Society" GenARDIS pre-selected our project proposal between the 230 it received. Of the 20 selected, 15 will be funded with about 7000 euro each. Ours plans to develop multimedia materials for ICT training for women who run rural cooperatives. The cost of operating the telecentre Guanaba.Net to be open 78 hours a week and provide community service is an average of 37.830 pesos per month. From the beginning it collects from sales of services an average of 12.252 pesos per month. We offer many services free of charge (Internet access to students, all skills) and what we charge is far below the market price. It is then obvious that income do not cover the running costs. If in 18 months we remain the only Internet access point to 20Km to the round, is because the social reality of the rural economy of these communities can not afford the cost. But how do you keep Guanaba.net if you spend more than it produces? . Costs are covered by (a) that the fund is donated by the Microsoft Corporation to Taigüey for the project (b) what they pay for other projects of the Foundation for services (copying, internet). And that .. that we are not counting the 100% volunteer work (not charged, nor have expenses covered) several people (Vicky, Alexis and Yacine), and effort throughout the Guan-team and community members. This is what keeps prices much cheaper than in the Cyber and work skills development for a meaningful use led to key stakeholders (educators, organizations, etc.) and beyond chat and copy and paste ..
